Hong Kong Revisited

24 - 27 February 2011.
The Yaps + The Yeos visited The Ching.

640am Jetstar flight that departed on time had us reached HK at 10ish.
Took a while for our respective yellow & grey bag to be out on the belt and by the time we checked in, we were famished.

Settled our first meal in HK at a typical cafe.

.......
Parted our ways after lunch and first stop for us was toy shop at Wan Chai.
I pictured it as a big factory outlet. It's just a shop in a mall and the toy cars weren't very cheap.
Left the place empty-handed and with too much time on hand, we went Tsiu Wah at Central for my favourite bun.

And left at 3ish for The Peak.

Look at the queue.
It went a little crazy when we were told to move up and perceived as cutting queue.
Two HKgers had a little arguement but everything was fine eventually when one party apologised.

We decided to go the touristy way and visited Madame Tussaud's.

OMG!!! I would have stopped breathing if it came alive...

Once upon a time...

Kinda once upon a time too....

This was particularly memorable because I had a 8R shot of this taken more than 10 years ago when SX and I went to the museum in Singapore.

After the tour, on our way up to the Sky Terrace.

Up again after 20 years...

Rich people

Korean stars visited but no idea who these heavily made up pretty boys are.
Waited 2hrs for the sun to set...

And this is why HK is beautiful and captivating...

Wrapped up the day with dinner at the famous restaurant - Yung Kee.

*****

Day 2 was solely on our own as the Yaps went over to Macau.
We started our day with breakfast at the traditional cafe beside the hotel and it was good!

After breakfast was almost an hour train ride to Tung Chung (near Disneyland) for Lantau Island.
Cable car ride would be faster to reach the top but guess what?
We spent an hour queuing....

And challenged ourselves with a ride in the crystal cabin.

It was lunch time when we reached and we decided to snack on desserts instead.
We were so in love with the durian pancake. Only to realise from HS we have this dessert shop at Vivo.

Him acting cool/Khoo.

Wishing tree.

FYI, this outfit was totally not suitable.
It was freaking warm!

160 steps we heard.

Stayed for a while at the top because we had a movie to catch.
Managed to try the local snacks before we left.

We got the window seats!

At Citygate Outlet to watch I Love Hong Kong.
Entire theater with only 5 patrons! Me like :)

Citygate is disappointing...
Only purchase that cheered me up.

Arranged an impromptu dinner with HS and to get JH's extra present.
Got lost at Harbour City, ha and settled for dinner pretty late.

Love that the vegetables are so green and fresh.

When in HK, goose is a must.
Very fattening though.

Yummy carrot cake recommended by HS.

That's not all for 3 of us.
Mr. Grumpy ordered a curry rice and HS and I shared a huge plate of noodles.
When will we learn not to over order?
We were so full that we had to forgo drinks or desserts.
And the night decided to get chilly when I had left the jacket in the room...
Nice.
*****
26 Feb - JH's birthday.

Surprised her with 2 mini delicious cakes.
5 peeps in a tiny room is quite a challenge and with a long day ahead, celebration was over in less than an hour.

First stop, dim sum at Central.
Second stop, century egg.

Third stop, H&M.

Fourth stop, Mong Kok for more shopping!

Fifth stop, the cafe full of character.

Sixth stop, back to hotel to dump our loot.

Seventh stop, Sai Kung for seafood.
Our first mini bus experience.

Last but not least, desserts and oranges at HS' apartment.

Hope you had a memorable birthday celebration :)
*****
On our last day, we headed to Avenue of Stars in the morning.

It was packed with lots of inconsiderate tourists/foreigners - people who walked over the hand prints when you were trying to take a picture, people who hogged the statues to have their photos taken like 101 times! Very frustrating and hence I didn't quite appreciate the place. Anyway it's more of a been there done that experience.

Then, like all other trips, there's always a time to say goodbye.

I love HK. I really do.
And I will return.
Not in 20 years time for sure :)

2016, a year to remember

June has always been my favourite month. But it didn't start off well as I had my first zero sale, boo hoo. Never mind I thought. I've had a zero, what could be worse? Another zero of course, wtf! Fast forward to June 18, the mahjong khakis celebrated my birthday and surprised me with a cake. June 19, celebrated with the in-laws and ended the night with some sinful durian. June 20. 230am. My phone rang. An unfamiliar number and I was so tired I decided to ignore it and switched my phone to night mode. 330am. Heard the phone beep. It was the FB message alert. For some strange reason, I opened my eyes to check my phone. Two missed calls from my brother and the first line of the FB message read your grandpa is in critical condition... I started shaking. Returned my brother's call and he said the same thing, proved that I wasn't dreaming. I hung up and read the FB message my uncle left me and yes it read my grandpa's in critical condition at Tan Tock Seng...

I would like to erase 2016

It feels like the end of the world but it's not. Or maybe a really bad nightmare. But it's not. Time heals all wounds. But it doesn't (heal) scars. Time reminds you the distance between us. That you are long gone. The pain, I have no words for. The tears, I have no control of. Well, sometimes I try to hold them back and sometimes, I allow myself to be defiant and cry out loud. I'm worried to hold you back with those tears but I'm worried I'd stop thinking of you one day. That one day, everyone pretends you never happened. Or that we forget something along the way. People say life goes on. Sure it does. Without you that is. 2016, I fucking hate you. I know this too will pass and when I'm more at peace, I'd be able to forgive you. But I'd never forget. I'd learn to let go instead.
