Make history with us.
This is our tagline and indeed, we were successful on 26 August.
We first learned about the event months ago and I was pulled in at the very last minute to be the publicist - a fancy name I gave myself :)
It didn't start off well and it wasn't easy because I'm completely clueless about golf!
How many are there in a flight? What's tee off? How do you know your handicap? Etc....
These were the questions I had and answers I was given were with some rolled eyes initially but with much patience eventually.
When publicity started - on-air spot went live, print ad went out, I thought my job was done.
Hell no! Numbers were short and with only a few weeks to the event, we panicked a little.
I even asked a consumer to help with publicity and to my surprise, he gladly helped and roped in more people. It really doesn't hurt to ask.
We started to see numbers and sold 67 slots.
And guess what? The guys who came from the sports channel have organised many golf events yet never sold any tickets because they were too chicken to do it!
And here we are, mostly golf idiots, sold 67 slots in less than a month!
Am I proud or what?
And on the day itself, for the first time, I saw everyone turn up for the event, punctually!
Golfers are such disciplined people who take their game seriously. I really like that.
How I wish all events are such.
When everyone came to us and told us it was a great event and expressed their thanks, the late nights, pain, frustration and whatnot were all gone.
I even got a little emotional when they were tearing down the place.
Kuduos to Sharon who organised and ran the on-ground event well.
Thanks to the interns, temp and colleagues who helped out.
Thanks to the ad sales guys who helped much too and who at times, pressurised us with their demands. These have helped us pushed ourselves.
Thanks to Hazel's trust and guidance.
We did ourselves proud!
Look out for HISTORY (channel), we are just gonna get bigger and better!
And this, is just one of the reasons why I love my job :)
